Sustainable Ocean Conference 2021

The Sustainable Ocean Conference is a is a free public event that brings together a wide audience. The goal is to promote opportunities for collaboration to address the range of issues affecting our ocean. The conference is supported by the Sobey Fund for Oceans and is organized annually by the students of the Marine Affairs Program at Dalhousie University. It is the only student-led conference of its kind in Atlantic Canada, and is being held for the 10th consecutive year.

The ocean is vital to all life on our planet, and yet many are unaware of its status beyond our shorelines. As 2021 marks the beginning of the UN Decade of Ocean Science and the tenth anniversary of the Sustainable Ocean Conference, we aim to foster a strong connection across all sectors, including local communities, with the ocean. The theme of our conference this year is Seeing Beyond The Shoreline and will incorporate a variety of perspectives, including those from industry, community, youth, academia, and government. The collaborative efforts and voices of all contributors will provide for a better understanding of protecting our oceans. Despite being separated by the COVID-19 pandemic, we will remain connected through our work, research, and common interest, just as the ocean connects us all.

Sustainable Ocean 2021 will include a panel discussion, an inspiring keynote speaker, student oral and poster presentations, and a photo contest.
