Ocean Allies Internship

Pisces Research Project Management Inc. (Pisces RPM www.piscesrpm.com) is a research and development project management company passionate about making the greatest positive impact for our ocean research money and time. Pisces RPM is seeking a student placement (4 months full-me or 6 months part-me) to assist with the creation of an internship program to help all the partners of the Ocean Allies Program with an EDI evaluation. Ocean Allies will seek to inspire, engage, employ, and continuously support diverse workforce in Canada’s ocean economy through partnerships with key organizations and targeted strategic activities.

● Assist with creating a program to support placements at Ocean Allies partners.
● Help establish a landscape analysis of EDI in the ocean-based workforce in Atlantic Canada.
● Help establish a plan to implement more inclusive policies.

Required competencies: Ability to work in a distributed team environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, and reliability are required. Creative problem solving and marketing aptitude would be an asset. Candidates with a passion for the ocean and a talent for organization are ideal. Pisces is looking for teammates who are efficient, effective, trustworthy and most importantly, fun.

Work term outcomes:
The successful applicant will:

1) Acquire first hand experience in being part of a rapidly growing, innovave scale-up
2) Acquire valuable experience in the fast growing ocean research sector
3) Help improve diversity, equity and inclusion in the ocean research sector in Canada

Ocean Programmer

Pisces Research Project Management Inc. (Pisces RPM www.piscesrpm.com ) is a research and development project management company passionate about making the greatest positive impact for our ocean research money and time. Pisces RPM is seeking a 16 week co-op student to assist with various computer tasks.

  • Responsible for project management assistance with data management and project management tools (ResearchGate, Google Scholar and DBLP
  • Perform web design, development, and maintenance including front-end, back-end, and database development
  • Provide internal IT support to a small company who live and work all over the world.
  • Assist in the design/creation/implementation of internal projects.

  • Enrolled as a full time student at a post-secondary college or university in Nova Scotia
  • Can provide documentation to prove your Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Resident or Refugee Status in Canada
  • Eligible to work in Canada

Required competencies: An ideal candidate will need to have the foundations of the public relations skills and functions, strong organizational tendencies as well as basic web skills including social media (twitter, linked-in). Ability to work in a distributed team environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, and reliability are required. Creative problem solving and marketing aptitude would be an asset. Candidates with a passion for the ocean and a talent for organization are ideal.

Work term outcomes:

The successful applicant will:

  • Acquire first hand experience in being part of a rapidly growing, innovative scale-up
  • Be part of the production of inhouse reporting software
  • Acquire valuable experience in the fast growing ocean research sector

Start date: Early January 2021 (negotiable)           End date:  End April 2021(negotiable)

Pay: $16.15/hour, 40 hours/week (flexible scheduling)

Required attributes for all employees
  • Passion for the ocean
  • Either possession of or willingness to work towards a PMI designation
  • Experience in at least two sectors of industry, academia, government, non-profit

Location: Pisces RPM is a distributed organization with employees responsible for both determining and providing an appropriate work location for their productivity, including internet, phone, appropriate office furniture and amenities. Pisces RPM will supply necessary work supplies to execute the work, including a computer, printer, scanner, and other office supplies as needed.

Hours: Flexible, minimum of 10 hours a week. Pisces is a flexible work schedule but maintains a communication standard of 1 workday internally and 2 workdays externally, unless otherwise agreed, creating a need for a minimum of 2 hours during each workday (M-F, 08:00-17:00) of the week.
