Jr Marketing/graphic designer

Primary responsibilities:

  • Design visual concepts based on detailed project briefs
  • Create branded materials for social media, websites, presentations, brochures etc. 
  • Collaborate with the rest of the marketing team on design, strategy, knowledge translation, data visualizations, infographics and social media campaigns 
  • Adhere to timelines and deliverables by working effectively and efficiently
  • Continued learning involving skill building, project management training, and mentorship
  • Provide design and user experience guidance to a software development team
  • Support in the gathering and analysis of user requirements for various websites and user interfaces

Required attributes:

  • Great attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite with particular strength in Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign
  • Ability to design and maintain websites built using WordPress and Elementor
  • Passion for the ocean
  • Either possession of or willingness to work towards a PMI designation
  • Reliability
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Excel, Google Docs, Gmail, Google Calendar)
  • Time management skills and the ability to work independently and self-manage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Beneficial Assets:

  • University or College degree/certificate in graphic design, visual art or equivalent experience (1-2 years of industry experience is a bonus)
  • Portfolio of work showcasing conceptual and execution capabilities for digital mediums. Portfolio or examples of work must be provided with application.
  • Comfortable working in CSS

Location: Pisces RPM is a distributed organization with employees responsible for both determining and providing an appropriate work location for their productivity, including internet, phone, appropriate office furniture and amenities. Pisces RPM will supply necessary work supplies to execute the work, including a computer, printer, scanner, and other office supplies as needed.

Hours: Flexible, minimum of 10 hours a week. Pisces is a flexible work schedule but maintains a communication standard of 1 workday internally and 2 workdays externally, unless otherwise agreed, creating a need for a minimum of 2 hours during each workday (M-F, 08:00-17:00) of the week.

Junior Data and Information Management Advisor

Pisces RPM is seeking a passionate programmer to help us make the world a better place through facilitating and enabling the Canadian oceans community.  We are looking for someone who wants to create a positive impact for our ocean. What will you be doing

  • Responsible for assisting with data management activities
  • Assisting managing a team doing full-stack web development, including:
    • Database design and implementation
    • Back-end web development in Python and Django
    • Front-end web development with CSS, JavaScript, and HTMLAssist on the design/creation/implementation of projects. 

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working with: 
    • Ocean data management 
    • A scripting language e.g. PythonWeb technologies(HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
    • Relational databases
    • Version control systems like GitLinux

Ocean Programmer

Pisces Research Project Management Inc. (Pisces RPM www.piscesrpm.com ) is a research and development project management company passionate about making the greatest positive impact for our ocean research money and time. Pisces RPM is seeking a 16 week co-op student to assist with various computer tasks.

  • Responsible for project management assistance with data management and project management tools (ResearchGate, Google Scholar and DBLP
  • Perform web design, development, and maintenance including front-end, back-end, and database development
  • Provide internal IT support to a small company who live and work all over the world.
  • Assist in the design/creation/implementation of internal projects.

Pisces RPM takes the mentoring of students very seriously and will allocate dedicated time to facilitate the student’s on the job learning and career development.   • Enrolled as a full time student at a post-secondary college or university in Nova Scotia

Required competencies: An ideal candidate will need to have the foundations of the public relations skills and functions, strong organizational tendencies as well as basic web skills including social media (twitter, linked-in). Ability to work in a distributed team environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, and reliability are required. Creative problem solving and marketing aptitude would be an asset. Candidates with a passion for the ocean and a talent for organization are ideal.

Work term outcomes:

The successful applicant will:

  • Acquire first hand experience in being part of a rapidly growing, innovative scale-up
