Dr. Melissa Weber, PhD

Principle Consultant, Ocean Research Project Management

Mobilizing high-quality research projects in oceans.

PhD, Geography, University of Ottawa

I am a social scientist with a passion for mobilizing research projects in oceans.

My ocean journey started unintentionally when I went off to university ready to change the world. I quickly realized it wasn’t going to be as easy as I thought. Fast forward to 2 degrees and countless hours towards my PhD later, I found my purpose and embraced my passion for oceans.

My connection with the ocean evolved during my PhD when I began working with coastal Arctic communities in Nunavut. That connection continued to grow when I found myself moving to the Dominican Republic to be closer to my husband’s family. I feel an overwhelming responsibility to teach our daughter to respect and love the ocean. For me, that starts with tackling big ocean challenges in my professional and personal life.

My passion is supporting ocean visionaries by taking on the administrative burden of undertaking research, R&D, or ocean projects. With more than 10 years of experience in academia, my approach brings together my extensive knowledge of research, comprehensive understanding of grants and compliance, intuitive understanding of finances and budgets, and oceans background. By combining these skills with my passion for the ocean, I can offer something truly unique: project support services tailored to help ocean-impact projects succeed.

As the Head of Ocean Research Project Management at Pisces RPM, my expertise includes:

  • Grant management (i.e. activity and milestone tracking)
  • Financial management (i.e. budget management)
  • Reporting (i.e. interim and annual reports to funders)
  • Strategic planning and positioning
